The rule is simple: choose frames that contrast with your face. Angular frames balance soft, round features; round frames soften a strong jaw and sharp corners. Here’s how to find your face shape in two minutes, and which frames to try.

Find your face shape

Pull your hair back and look straight into a mirror or your phone’s front camera. Compare three things:

  1. Width: your forehead, your cheekbones and your jaw. Which is widest?
  2. Jaw line: soft and rounded, or strong and angular?
  3. Length: is your face about as long as it is wide, or clearly longer?

Most people are a mix of two shapes. Go with the one that fits best; the frame advice overlaps anyway.

Frames for each face shape

Your faceHow to recognise itFrames that suit it
RoundWidth and length almost equal, soft jaw, full cheeksRectangular, square, wayfarer, cat-eye, geometric, browline
OvalA little longer than wide, gently rounded jawAlmost every shape: rectangular, square, aviator, wayfarer, round
SquareStrong, wide jaw; forehead and jaw about the same widthRound, oval, aviator
HeartWider forehead, narrow chinAviator, cat-eye, round, oval, light or rimless frames
OblongClearly longer than wide, straight cheeksRound, oversized and deep rectangular, wayfarer, browline

Round face: straight lines and corners add definition, so a rectangular or wayfarer frame slightly wider than your cheekbones works well. Avoid small, round frames, which repeat the curves.

Oval face: lucky you. Keep the frame about as wide as the widest part of your face and pick the style you like.

Square face: curves soften a strong jaw. Round and oval frames, or an aviator’s teardrop lens, balance the angles. Avoid heavy square frames.

Heart face: choose frames that are wider at the bottom or light at the top, like aviators, so they balance a wider forehead.

Oblong face: deep frames with some height break up the length. Round frames and bold wayfarers both work; very narrow frames make the face look longer.

Size matters as much as shape

A frame should be about as wide as your face at the temples. Every Lunettes product page shows the frame width:

  • Up to 129 mm: small faces
  • 130–139 mm: average faces
  • 140 mm and up: medium to large faces

The easiest check: measure a pair that already fits you, hinge to hinge, and compare it with the frame width on the page.
